The God of Glory

Genesis 11:10-32, Acts 7

Acts 7:2b-3, “The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Harran, And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.”

Just imagine the book of Genesis as a movie. You start to see a perfect world, then the focus is on two people in a tragically situation: they make wrong choices. Music changes for the rest of their lives. History made rapid strides until another man is in the foreground, Noah, the chosen of God, and his family is saved during the flood. This family has a new start in a new world. Then it does not change but a stage and evil is present and we see evil working. Once again, people choose to turn their backs on God. Babel Tower rises and falls. Families are scattered on the ground. Man cannot escape this moral decline. Knowledge of the true God seems lost. Again, there is a man in our attention: Abraham. Is he different from others? The following 39 chapters of Genesis describe the life of this man and his family to the third generation.God chose him to fulfill His plans by this man and his descendants.Through Abraham, God blessed all nations.Because Abraham had faith, God gave him a new start.

Abraham is the central figure of the book of Genesis. He is the father of the Hebrew people. All those who have faith are the spiritual children of Abraham (Galatians 3:7). Abraham believed God’s promise. If you believe God’s promise, your faith is credited as righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).

When God called Abraham, He gave him a new start and a new direction for his life. Though sometimes he doubted and fell, Abraham repented and continued to depend on God. Abraham enjoyed fellowship with God. God called him His friend (Isaiah 41:8, James 2:23). Abraham’s life shows us that God rewards those who trust in Him and obey Him. As we follow the Lord by faith, we experience friendship with Him.

If someone would make a movie that will have your life presented, how would the background music be?What image would be in the foreground?A person who rises and falls?A person who lives by faith?

Lord, I want to have a fresh start and a new direction for my life. I want to learn dependence on You, to develop friendship with You, to continue to grow in faith and obedience to You, to get a reward: the reward of those who believe. Lord, make me a blessing to all who come after me!

Be a blessing to others!
