Genesis 20:1-18

Genesis 20: 9, “Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.”

Many times we do things that should not be done. We fall into sin. How do you pray to overcome temptation and to get away from sin? God restores the sinner who repents. God calls believers to abandon their plans and to follow His plans. Obedience to God prepares the way to reconciliation with others. Have you recently asked for forgiveness from God for your sin? What emotions did you experience following forgiveness?  Perhaps it was joy, or relief or peace. What does it mean to ask for and receive forgiveness?

Maybe you know people of strong faith in God that others admire. Perhaps they have trusted in God even when they passed through sickness or trouble. Maybe they remained faithful to God, even when they experienced great tragedies. You may have seen people respond with kindness when treated with cruelty. Whom do you admire? Nobody has perfect faith. Abraham’s faith was not perfect. He made mistakes. There were times when he let fear rule his heart. Only God is perfect and in His mercy He gives us grace and peace when we go through difficult situations. He blesses us with His presence in our homes and in our relationships and we can rely on Him. Perhaps Abraham’s heart was heavy when (after the destruction of Sodom) he moved to Gerar. He prayed for Sodom and perhaps he didn’t know if Lot escaped or not; he just saw smoke rising above the city that had been destroyed.

Abraham deceived Abimelech because he led him to believe a lie; he led him to believe that Sarah was his sister. Even though Sarah was old, certainly she was a remarkable woman, for the king chose her and took her to the palace. Today, believers make the same mistake, leading others to believe a lie. Some believers repeat the mistakes of their past, mistakes they never repented of. What satanic power of oppression and fear caused Abraham to panic at this time when Sarah was about to become the mother of his son, his heir, Isaac the promised one? This attitude seems not in character with what we know about Abraham, the faithful one. His hasty action is in opposition to his lack of selfishness, his power, and his care for others and the courage he has shown in the past. How did Abraham abandon trusting God to believe a lie? Abraham’s example shows that when believers give up and let fear rule their lives, they commit irrational acts. In fact, the Bible does not hide the mistakes of the faithful, and this proves its authenticity. The deed of Abraham warns believers today. We should never minimize a mistake. Let’s face it and banish sin from our lives. Let’s repent, because unresolved sin comes out and has tragic consequences. Our human nature includes weakness of character and reveals some tendencies which should be recognized and addressed before disaster comes into our lives and others. We all have weakness. It may be a desire for comfort or laziness. Sometimes we are looking for the easiest way through. Maybe you are afraid of criticism and inconvenience. You may lack the courage to tell the truth. Perhaps you do not have discernment regarding doctrine or you talk too much. Perhaps you keep resentment towards others, or find it easy to lie. If you see pride and greed in your heart, if you are bothered with selfishness and fear, pray to God because He can deliver us from all these sins.

Lord, I thank You that I am free from the bondage of sin!

Genesis 13:14-18

Genesis 13:14, “And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward.”

God told Abraham to lift up his eyes and see His blessing. The land to the north, to the south, to the east and to the west – everything was his. Even the land chosen by Lot! Abraham’s descendants have inherited that land just as God promised. There was no limit placed. Whatever God promises will happen. Even though Israel is now faithless, God will bring times of refreshing to His people. Jews will return to the land promised to Abraham and his descendants, and will return to the God of Abraham (Romans 11:25-27). Israel survived, despite persecution. Many nations in the time of Abraham have been forgotten, but Israel will remain in history. Sincere Christians of today see how God’s promises to Abraham apply to them. All believers are spiritual descendants of Abraham and they are blessed. God told Abraham, Lift up your eyes, see the country, get up, and walk through the land. The Lord requires active faith. Abraham obeyed; and he looked up and saw the land, arose and passed through the land. He built an altar and worshiped the Lord.

If the Lord would tell you today, Lift up your eyes, what would you do? We can use our eyes to see His Word. We can take our eyes away from things that are vain. We can make a covenant with our eyes not to look at sin. We can choose to stop paying so much attention to earthly things, but instead look more to things above. If the Lord would tell you today, See the country, what would you do? We could think more often of the Promised Land, the Kingdom of God and prepare ourselves more diligently to get there. We can choose what is eternal at the expense of what is perishing. We can choose to live each day with joy because we have a future and a hope. If the Lord would tell you today, Get up, what would you do? Have you fallen? Get up! Leave behind what you need to leave behind. Get up and walk by faith. Get up and have an active faith. Go where the Lord is sending you. If the Lord would tell you today, Cross the country, what would you do? We can proclaim the Gospel. We can spend time in prayer. We can choose to fast and pray for our family. We can choose to serve where the Lord is calling us to serve. We can choose to walk in faith, with our God, regardless of the price we have to pay.

Where is your attention, where are your eyes locking? Let’s not care only about this world. If we have hope in the Lord only for this life, we are the most miserable people (1 Corinthians 15:19). We need to look at the promises of God and walk by faith. What is your problem now and how will you walk by faith, even despite this problem? Are you on top of it, with God’s help? We have to watch our reaction to the conflicts of life. Let’s not ignore problems as long as there is peace and nothing bothers us. If you often raise your voice in your home, you need to change. Because by seeing your example and the verbal battles you have with your husband, your children learn to raise their voices too.  We need to be self-controlled and learn how to respond when someone yells at us. It is wrong to answer as Lot did, who preferred argument, rather than losing something material. We need to make peace a priority in our home. In Matthew 11:29-30 we are told, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Humility does not mean weakness. It is entrusting my will to God. Maybe the Lord is asking you to give up a right even today for the sake of His Kingdom. Just like Abraham, you can put your future in the hands of God.

Lord, today I choose to focus my eyes on your Word!

Genesis 1

Genesis 1:27, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

On the sixth day, God created animals and man. God told man to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth and subdue it, and to have dominion over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves on the earth (Genesis 1:28). How do you exercise this dominion in the way you take care of the body that God gave you? How do you take care of the animals that God created? Moses, the author of Genesis, presents three categories of animals: cattle, creeping things and wild animals. In contrast to animal relationships with God, man’s relationship with God is described as unique. The highlight of creation is when God made man on the sixth day. Everything that was created before man was created for a divine purpose, but God’s great purpose was to create a being in His image, able to communicate with Him and to further fulfill God’s purpose. Everything was ready when the man appeared. The environment was perfect. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit took part in creation together. Let Us make man in Our likeness, in Our image (Genesis 1:26). This verse points to the Trinity – this concept is difficult to understand in the Old Testament and it continues to be difficult today. Elohim is the name of God used in Genesis one.  The triune nature of God was not understood until the Lord Jesus came to earth. The Lord Jesus revealed His divinity and He revealed to us the truth about the Holy Spirit.

That human beings were created in the likeness of God means we are responsible morally and spiritually and are able to worship God, to love Him and to serve Him. Only man was created in God’s likeness. Only man has the ability to know God, to communicate with Him and make Him known to others. God the Creator created man in His image and likeness. How well am I representing the image of God in my world? How constant am I in living out my faith? What do my words, my thoughts, my actions, and my work reveal about my relationship with God? How well do I know my Creator? How well do I know His purpose? Your thoughts about the Creator, after having researched and studied chapter 1 of Genesis, might be different. Perhaps you want to know Him more and ask for His help. You can improve your relationship with Him today and this week and every day. Will you choose to leave behind the concerns, the problems or your ephemeral joys that you may worship your Creator who made the world for you to enjoy it? You can choose to give glory to Him and to experience His blessings. If you are looking for answers for your life, you can start by thanking God for all He has done for you. Count you blessings and do not forget that you have been created in the image and likeness of God!

O, Lord, You prepared a place for me here on earth, a place to live for a while. You want to have a special relationship with me. I love You and I worship You. O, God, how great and marvelous is all You have made! Everything I see or don’t see with my eyes is Your wonderful creation. Thank You for: light, heaven and earth, trees, flowers, grass, animals, waters, mountains and hills, valleys and meadows, birds, fish and all the beauty that surrounds me! You can create beauty in my life too. I invite You into my life to change darkness into light, to give life where there is death, to revive dryness that is in my heart with Your inexhaustible springs, to give rest to my weary soul and body, to give joy to my heart through all Your marvelous creation; to sustain health to my mind by the true faith, based on Your Word, not the word of men. I often wonder: How does my life reflect the purpose for which You created me? You’re not far from me. You gave me Your Word that I should know You. Thank You for all the opportunities You give me to know You. Your strength helps me to bear fruit. Thank You for working in my life. As long as I remain in You, I will bear fruit (John 15:4-5). Please do not let me get away from You nor to isolate myself. Thank You that You fill my life with activities that have eternal value. I don’t want to be bored and fruitless. I want to grow in the knowledge of Truth. You’ve made me to have a special relationship with You. Thank You for Jesus Christ who redeemed me. Thank You for all of Your blessings. I choose to remain in Your will. I pray that You would continue to change my life as You want. I will not cease to love You, to thank You and to worship You, because You speak to me through Your creation and You blessed me beyond measure!

You are blessed beyond measure!

Ce efect are ipocrizia în viețile copiilor noștri? Să ne întrebăm ce văd copiii și cei din jur în noi. Să ne gândim la modelul de viață în casă, la inima cu care slujim și dacă facem ceea ce zicem. Domnul ne convinge de multe ori dacă suntem greșite, false sau neatente cu viețile noastre. Ce învață copiii noștri dacă ne văd pe noi nemulțumite cu statutul de soție, mamă și casnică? Facem noi cu bucurie și bunătate ceea ce Domnul ne-a dat să facem sau tot timpul vrem altceva pentru că ne comparăm cu alte femei?

Uneori Dumnezeu întrerupe mersul nostru și planurile noastre. Să primim întreruperile și să cerem lumină de la Domnul cu privire la noul nostru statut. Copiii și casa nu sunt o întrerupere, ci o misiune pe care Domnul o dă femeilor. Să avem o perspectivă corectă despre viața de femeie. Să nu pierdem anii în frustrare și nemulțumire. Să folosim chiar și durerea spre binele nostru. Cum? Durerea ne pune pe genunchi. Să ne dezvoltăm în rugăciune, în relația cu Domnul. Să ne predăm Domnului. Am câteva cuvinte la care mi-am propus să mă gândesc anul acesta. Predarea în mâna Domnului în toate domeniile vieții este unul dintre cuvinte.

Psalmi 101:1-8: ,,Voi cânta bunătatea şi dreptatea; Ţie, Doamne, Îţi voi cânta. Mă voi purta cu înţelepciune pe o cale neprihănită. Când vei veni la mine? Voi umbla cu inima fără prihană, în mijlocul casei mele. Nu voi pune nimic rău înaintea ochilor mei; urăsc purtarea păcătoşilor; ea nu se va lipi de mine. Inima stricată se va depărta de mine; nu vreau să cunosc pe cel rău. Pe cel ce cleveteşte în ascuns pe aproapele său, îl voi nimici; pe cel cu priviri trufaşe şi cu inima îngâmfată, nu-l voi suferi. Voi avea ochii îndreptaţi asupra credincioşilor din ţară, ca să locuiască lângă mine; cel ce umblă pe o cale fără prihană, acela îmi va sluji. Cel ce se dedă la înşelăciune nu va locui în casa mea; cel ce spune minciuni nu va sta înaintea mea. În fiecare dimineaţă voi nimici pe toţi cei răi din ţară, ca să stârpesc din cetatea Domnului pe toţi cei ce săvârşesc nelegiuirea.”

Cum arată o inimă curată? David a avut cele mai bune intenții când a scris acest Psalm, această rugăciune. Aceasta a fost inima lui David, deși a făcut câteva compromisuri în viață. Însă Domnul spune că David a fost om după inima lui Dumnezeu pentru că s-a pocăit. David și-a stabilit un standard foarte înalt, chiar dacă nu a putut să rămână acolo întotdeauna. Ca să rămânem în curăție trebuie să fim vigilente. Îndiferent de vârstă, trebuie să veghem. Nu contează cât de mature spiritual suntem, nu ne putem permite să trăim fără grijă. Nu contează câtă experiență de viață avem sau cât de mulți ani avem la credință. Să nu punem garda jos.

Niciodată nu ajungem la punctul în care nu avem nevoie de harul Domnului ca protecție și siguranță. Numai El ne poate păzi inimile de păcatul care ne pândește până închidem ochii pentru totdeauna. Ai hotărât să-ți păstrezi mintea și inima curată? Ai hotărât să-ți păstrezi vorbirea și purtarea curată? Te-ai hotărât să ai o viață curată acasă și în public? Oricine poate să pară spiritual în biserică, în public, dar acasă ce facem? Poate nu spunem lucruri rele, dar ce gândim? Unde dăm testul curăției/sfințeniei? Acasă, când se vede felul în care îl tratez pe soțul meu, pe copilul meu, pe părinții mei sau pe părinții soțului meu. Examenul curăției/sfințirii îl dăm la locul de muncă și în relații.

Doamne, fie ca vorbele noastre să promoveze pacea. Ajută-ne să vorbim de bine, să ne rugăm, să ne sfătuim una pe alta în ce privește binele. Vrem să primim instrucțiunile Tale ca să ne bucurăm de frumusețea Evangheliei. Vrem să primim putere de sus să practicăm Evanghelia, să ne oprim din vorbire dacă nu avem ceva bun de spus. Vrem să ne amintim că trebuie să ne folosim limba ca să Te lăudăm pe Tine, să ne rugăm și să binecuvântăm pe alții. Învață-ne cum să ne schimbăm, cum să răspundem, cum să acționăm și cum să facem lucrurile bine, căci nu vrem să distrugem relații sau reputația altora. Vrem să ne lăsăm convinse de Duhul Sfânt și să ne pocăim ca să nu ne distrugem pe noi și pe cei din jur cu o limbă nestăpânită, neîmblânzită. Te rugăm să ne ierți pentru că am vorbit ce nu trebuia vorbit, am rănit, am distrus și am rupt relații. Prin puterea Duhului Sfânt să ne îmblânzești limba sălbatică, să ne schimbi inimile netăiate împrejur, să alungi mândria, invidia, gelozia și spiritul de competiție și ceartă, ca să nu ne folosească cel rău spre pieirea noastră și a celor din jur. Doamne, curățește-ne, iartă-ne, sfințește-ne și ajută-ne să urmărim pacea și edificarea în Trupul lui Hristos.

Clevetirea este o problemă serioasă. De ce ne atenționează Pavel? Este o problemă în Biserică. Există o problemă între femei: clevetirea. Și apoi alte păcate ale limbii: bârfa, vorbirea de rău, acuzații false, intrigi, scandal, minciuni, certuri. Noi știm că diavolul este mincinos și tatăl minciunilor. Este acuzatorul fraților (Apocalipsa 12:10). Satan L-a acuzat pe Dumnezeu și L-a vorbit de rău în grădina Eden când i-a sugerat Evei să se îndoiască de Dumnezeu. A mințit cu privire la consecințele neascultării de Dumnezeu. I-a sugerat Evei că restricțiile puse de Dumnezeu nu sunt necesare și poate să aleagă să nu asculte. Prin aceasta, diavolul a atacat adevărul Cuvântului lui Dumnezeu. Satan și astăzi ne acuză și ne îndeamnă să clevetim și noi. Ne îndeamnă să ne punem tot felul de întrebări care lucrează în defavoarea noastră: Unde este Dumnezeu când am nevoie? Oare pot să mă încred în El? Este Cuvântul Lui adevărat? Am eu nevoie de El? Nu pot să mă descurc fără El? Oare chiar mă iubește Dumnezeu? Dacă mă iubește, de ce mă lasă prin greutăți? Aceste întrebări lovesc în Dumnezeu și ne fac să credem că El nu este credincios, iubitor, plin de bunătate și adevăr. Să nu cedăm la aceste ispite, căci Satan vrea să ne depărteze de Dumnezeu. Satan în mod continuu aduce acuzații la adresa lui Dumnezeu și la adresa aleșilor Lui. Satan l-a acuzat pe Iov, spunând că Îl urmează pe Domnul din interes. A fi clevetitoare, a rosti acuzații false, a vorbi de rău înseamnă a fi drăcesc, a fi ca diavolul, a participa la lucrările diavolului și a avea caracter drăcesc. Când îi clevetim pe alții împlinim scopurile lui Satan. Înțelegem noi ce serioasă problemă este clevetirea? Știi cât este de mortală și distructivă în biserică?

Teologia este viziunea (știința) mea despre Dumnezeu. Fiecare are o teologie.  Dacă Îl vedem pe Dumnezeu ca fiind Cel care salvează, iartă, vindecă și restaurează, vom deveni și noi oameni care caută iertarea, vindecarea și restaurarea sufletelor. Dacă nu înțelegem harul, mila și îndurarea Domnului nu putem dărui altora care păcătuiesc nici un bine. Împăratul David a avut o gândire despre Dumnezeu care l-a ajutat să răspundă într-un fel supranatural. Ce a spus el? Să-L lăsăm pe Dumnezeu să face ce crede El că trebuie făcut. El este în control. Poate Dumnezeu a trimis pe acest om în viața mea să aud ceva ce trebuie să aud. Oare lucrurile pe care le-am auzit de-a lungul vieții, care ne-au fost spuse și ne-au rănit nespus, la care am reacționat așa cum am știut și putut, ce au vrut să ne spună? Ceva din partea Domnului? O sămânță de adevăr? Oare unele au menirea să ne sfințească? Să ne descopere teologia noastră? Dacă răspundem negativ și dur, pierdem ceva ce Domnul vrea să ne spună? Nu vreau să spun că cei ce rostesc blesteme fac ceva plăcut Domnului ca să fie folosit în favoarea celor credincioși. Vreau să spun că Domnul poate folosi orice situație grea în favoarea celor credincioși. David L-a lăsat pe Dumnezeu să intervină. În loc să se apere, în loc să acționeze dur sau violent, s-a retras. A făcut acest lucru pentru că a recunoscut suveranitatea lui Dumnezeu. Doamne, izbăvește-mă de mine însămi, de reacțiile mele negative, dure și nepotrivite, născute din fire. Păzește-mă de mânie, supărare, apăsare și amărăciune. Ajută-mă să mă smeresc și să primesc tot ce trimiți sau permiți în viața mea, să învăț Cuvântul și să am o teologie corectă – cea a Scripturilor.

Și ne iartă nouă păcatele noastre, precum și noi iertăm greșiților noștri

Ce ar fi dacă Domnul ne-ar ierta cum noi iertăm? Cum te atinge această întrebare? Cel mai mare motiv pentru care oamenii au mare greutate să primească iertarea lui Dumnezeu, cred că este faptul că ei au neiertare în inima lor față de cineva. De unde avem putere să-i iertăm pe alții? Dacă nu îi iertăm pe alții, relația noastră cu Dumnezeu este afectată. Cred că această parte din rugăciunea Tatăl nostru este cea mai dificilă: precum iertăm și noi. Mai târziu, după rugăciune, Domnul Isus revine la această parte din rugăciune: Matei 6: 14-15: ,,Dacă iertaţi oamenilor greşelile lor, şi Tatăl vostru cel ceresc vă va ierta greşelile voastre. Dar dacă nu iertaţi oamenilor greşelile lor, nici Tatăl vostru nu vă va ierta greşelile voastre.” Este o legătură clară între felul în care îi tratăm pe alții și felul în care ne tratează Dumnezeu pe noi. Este o legătură între dorința noastră de a-i ierta pe alții și abilitatea noastră de a primi și experimenta iertarea lui Dumnezeu. Când refuzăm să dăm iertare greșiților noștri, când păstrăm amărăciunea în inimă, când lăsăm durerea să ne consume, când îi ținem ostateci pe alții, când nu-i lăsăm pe datornici să plece iertați, când refuzăm să ințelegem greșelile altora, de fapt capacitatea noastră de a primi și experimenta harul și iertarea Domnului sunt afectate. Este în defavoarea noastră să nu-i iertăm pe alții. Ajungem și noi în închisoare de bună voie și nesiliți de nimeni. Într-o anumită măsură înțelegem de ce mulți creștini ajung în descurajare, depresie, vinovăție, mânie, dezechilibru emoțional. Matei 5: 7: ,,Ferice de cei milostivi, căci ei vor avea parte de milă!”  Cei ce dăruiesc milă, îndurare, har, iertare, la rândul lor vor primi milă, har, îndurare, iertare. Cei ce primesc mila Domnului devin oameni ai milei. Cei ce nu dăruiesc milă altora vor fi forțați să trăiască fără mila altora și să poarte povara vinovăției. Inima lor îi va condamna mereu. Multe femei poartă acest bagaj emoțional al lucrurilor nerezolvate, pentru că nu au avut milă de alții și se gândesc că Domnul nu le va da eliberare până când vor alege să ierte pe alții. Nu putem aștepta ca Domnul să ne ierte când noi nu iertăm.
